Solar Drip

Natural disasters are challenging to prepare for because they are so unpredictable, in terms of when they will hit, the geography and the severity of the impact. Tsunamis are particularly detrimental, precisely because of their unpredictable and extremely devastating nature. Not only is it a result of seismic activity, which is already damaging enough in itself, but the inundations of tsunami waters can completely wipe out infrastructure nearby the coast, including the homes of many civilians, ultimately cutting off all electricity power, gas, phone signal, and clean water supplies. Everything is flooded and contaminated with saltwater - plenty of water sources available, but none to drink?
This is where the Solar Drip can become a crucial survival tool to the victims stuck in such an emergency scenario. The Solar Drip uses a long-established and extremely simple technology - solar distillation. It functions on solar energy, requiring no electricity or manual input, and provides the purest kind of water possible, removing not only viruses and bacteria, but saltwater, which a majority of filtration technologies has not yet accomplished through efficient, accessible and affordable means. Furthermore, it lowers the risk of damage from impact as there is no filtration technology that is at risk of being broken or contaminated.
The Solar Drip also uses utilizes a spring steel frame and pop-up mechanism to allow for it to be folded and stored in a compact and transportable bag - this way it can be easily stored away in your home, but quickly retrieved and carried with you in the unplanned event of an emergency. Alternatively, it can be easily distributed by emergency staff vehicles and shelters to countless victims.
The Solar Drip can help save the lives of disaster victims by providing them with clean, safe drinking water through a cheap, accessible, sustainable and reliable technology.
