open July 21

The Inter-American Development Bank, through the Play Challenge, seeks to identify video games, digital platforms or products, that use gamification to develop, measure, or certify 21st Century Skills.

 - The solution must contribute to the development of the creative and cultural sector: the solution must be an educational video game, platform, and/or digital product.

 - The solution should use gamification for the development, measurement, or certification of 21st Century Skills. For instance, the solution helps develop skills in math, reading, creativity, music, art, digital skills, problem-solving, or empathy. Or the solution helps measure and generate digital badges or certifications of such skills.

 - The solution must be already published and working (it must include where it was published, the number of users, and information that validates its publication or use).

 - The solution must be from any of the 48 IDB member countries.

 - Representatives of the solutions must be over 18 years of age as of July 20, 2020, and residents of one of the 48 IDB member countries.

Representatives of entities located in the 48 IDB member countries can present proposals. These entities include innovators, entrepreneurs, startups, NGOs, companies, academic institutions, research institutions, social companies, public innovation agencies or similar entities with specialization and knowledge in the development of business models in the cultural and creative industries, that aim to find educational solutions and present an educational video game solution, platform solution or digital product solution that uses gamification for the development, measurement or certification of 21st Century Skills.

Latin American talent in video game development has an opportunity to bring the worlds of entertainment, technology, and education closer together, especially with the use of 'Gamification' in many industries. So why shouldn't such a large industry be used to improve the world?

Video games have many qualities, they foster teamwork, problem-solving, curiosity and creativity, digital motor social skills, and, depending on the game genre, also a great deal of knowledge. So, video games can be an opportunity to develop certain key 21st Century Skills.

 - The 15 finalists will be considered by the IDB as a solution within the 21st Century Skills regional project, to be part of the proposals that could be implemented in the region. The IDB will evaluate the capacity of the proposing entities to implement the proposed innovative models. Furthermore, the solutions will be analyzed to obtain evidence of their effectiveness and viability.

 - The 15 finalists, regardless of their financing, can be part of the IDB's network of global innovators working in the region to exchange knowledge, experiences, best practices, and plenty of opportunities to participate in regional networking events.

 - The winning solution will receive $ 10.000 USD.
