This proposal seeks funding to develop a Physical Education Curriculum for the lower secondary level (Forms 1-3) of the education system in Saint Lucia. Specifically, funding is being sought for (a)the Writing Workshop; (b) printing of the document and (c) professional development activities for teachers to support implementation. Saint Lucia has high rates of non-communicable diseases that have taken a toll on the country's healthcare system and the productivity of the citizens. The number of deaths in Saint Lucia of persons with underlying conditions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of citizens developing healthy lifestyle habits. This secondary Physical Education curriculum will help ensure that students will become physically literate and can commit to healthy lifestyle practices that they can maintain throughout their lives. It would also ensure that teachers receive necessary professional development to effectively deliver the curriculum.
